5-year sentence planned for man who beat cabbie with crutch

LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man pleaded guilty Friday to beating a cab driver with a metal crutch on June 21.

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon said she intends to sentence Christian A. Tabb, 37, of Buffalo Avenue, to five years in state prison for second-degree assault. She will make it official June 24.

The attack occurred while the cabbie was standing outside his vehicle at the cab stand outside Seneca Niagara Casino in the Falls. The attack, captured on surveillance video, was not a robbery attempt and appeared to be unprovoked. Tabb, who apparently was not using the crutch because of any injury of his own, left the victim with gashes on his hand and arm.
