Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected in southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming and Allegany counties through 2 a.m. Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for those areas that went into effect at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Today's high temperatures are expected to reach the lower 50s.
Before the thermometer climbs, there's a chance for rain showers - and even snow showers - in the area this morning.
The chance of rain increases this afternoon and then further around 7 or 8 p.m., with occasional rain expected overnight, said meteorologist Jim Mitchell. The steadiest rain will fall after 9 p.m.
Up to a quarter inch of rain is expected by Thursday morning, Mitchell said.
