William T. Lester Jr., plumber, pipefitter, firefighter

March 11, 1947 – April 4, 2016

LITTLE VALLEY – William T. Lester Jr., of Little Valley, a union plumber and pipefitter, died Monday in WCA Hospital, Jamestown, after a lengthy illness. He was 69.

Born in Buffalo, he was a 1965 graduate of Cleveland Hill High School in Cheektowaga and served in the Navy Seabees as a plumber and pipefitter in the Vietnam War.

Mr. Lester joined United Association Local 22, Plumbers and Steamfitters, in Buffalo in 1969 and worked on major construction projects, including the Marine Midland Center and in chemical plants in Niagara Falls and at the West Valley Demonstration Project. He retired in 2002.

A Little Valley resident since 1977, he was an exempt member of the Cleveland Hill Volunteer Fire Company and a life member of the Little Valley Volunteer Fire Company.

He was a past commander and chairman of the board of Little Valley Post 8734, Veterans of Foreign Wars; and a member of Little Valley Post 531, American Legion, and the Cattaraugus-Allegany Counties Joint Veterans Council.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, the former Barbara Hessel; a son, Kyle W.; a brother, James; a sister, Joanne Glinski; and three grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 22 Jefferson St., Ellicottville, followed at 1 p.m. by a military service in Little Valley Post 8734, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 5460 Route 353.
