A Buffalo police officer who crashed into another car while off duty was found guilty of driving while ability impaired in a nonjury trial before Judge Craig D. Hannah in Buffalo City Court.
Dave Rodriguez, 49, of North Pearl Street refused all sobriety tests after his car crashed into another vehicle at Allen and Main streets on the evening of March 4. The other car was stopped at a red light on Allen when it was struck by Rodriguez’s car and it sustained minor damage.
Rodriguez, a 23-year police veteran, initially was charged with DWI. He is currently suspended with pay while the case was investigated by Internal Affairs. Following his conviction, Rodriguez was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days.
Assistant District Attorney Robin Deubler prosecuted the case.
