Blasdell reaches agreement with owner of fire-damaged house

An agreement has been reached between the Village of Blasdell and Daniel Murray, who purchased a property at 3705 S. Park Ave., to have the exterior of the building that was heavily damaged by fire in late 2013 fixed by May 31.

“He has hired a contractor,” Mayor Michael Petrie said.

As part of the agreement, Murray, who purchased the property nearly two years ago after the fire, is supposed to have exterior debris cleaned up by May 1. Once that is finished, Murray agreed to have the siding finished by May 31.

“He should have the exterior cleaned up by the end of May,” Petrie said.

Village Attorney James Shaw said it is now up to Murray to adhere to the agreement, otherwise the village would have to take further measures.

“Then we (would) bring him into court,” Shaw said, adding that if it were to reach that point, the village would seek a fine of $250 per week that the work is not completed.

In other news, Petrie advised residents who have been placing brush out to the curb that brush pickup has not yet begun in the village.

“The brush date (begins) April 18,” Petrie said. Brush pickup will be held each Monday through Oct. 31.
