Two Buffalo-based real estate firms once again landed on a ranking of the nation’s largest agencies, including one in the top 50.
The annual report of the top 500 firms by Castle Rock, Colo.-based industry research and information firm Real Trends ranked RealtyUSA as 9th in the country by number of transactions and 33rd in dollar volume, with 23,023 deals valued at $3.55 billion. Rival Hunt Real Estate Corp. came in 42nd in transactions and 110th in volume, with 10,113 deals worth $1.6 billion.
RealtyUSA, owned and run by Merle Whitehead, is the largest independent brokerage firm in the state by dollar volume and the ninth-largest in the country by number of transactions. The firm has 63 offices statewide, including 16 in Western New York, and one in Montrose, Pa. It has over 2,000 agents and employees.
The family-owned Hunt, founded in 1911, is the second-largest firm in Western New York, and 47th-largest in the country by transactions. It’s also the largest family owned and operated brokerage in upstate New York, and one of the fastest-growing firms in the country. It works under the ERA brand.
The REAL Trends report said that the 500 largest firms closed over 2.9 million residential sales last year, valued at $934 billion. That represented nearly 29 percent of all broker-assisted transactions. Realogy subsidiary NRT LLC of Madison, N.J., was No. 1, with 342,300 transactions. Pittsburgh-based Hanna Holdings Inc., which acquired Rocheser-based Nothnagle Realtors, was 4th, with 61,677 transactions.
