Southtowns fitness program set for disabled children

Fitness Fusion and Dance of Williamsville will offer an eight-week program for children with disabilities starting next week at the Elma, Marilla, Wales Boys and Girls Club.

The adaptive fitness program for children ages 10 to 18, will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays 4 at the club, 2080 Girdle Road, Elma.

Children will learn the basics of strength training, using body weight and band resistance techniques to help improve core stability, metabolism, muscle tone, overall strength and range of motion. The program also aims to decrease body weight, blood pressure and percentage of body fat. In addition to the physical benefits, this program offers a social setting for children.

Classes will be led by certified trainer and dance teacher Shannon L. Hockwater, owner of Fitness Fusion and Dance and adjunct professor in the Health, Nutrition & Dietetics Department at SUNY Buffalo State.

Cost is $40 per class; individual sessions or packages of four or eight may be purchased. For more information, call 259-2639 or visit fusionfitnessdance.com.
