Lockport woman victimized by fraud

LOCKPORT – A Lewiston woman contacted the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department when she learned her 72-year-old mother had been sending money to a man in Nigeria.

She said her mother sent the man $5,000 via Moneygram over the past month.

The victim met the suspect, who calls himself “Michael Perez,” on Facebook one year ago, Occasionally he also called her, but he did not give her his number. He told the victim that he is in the military serving in Nigeria, but he lives in Missouri. He told her he was on a secret mission and the government was withholding his money.

The daughter said her mother’s account is under her supervision and she learned of the scheme when her mother came to her for more money.
