Alt-comedy trio Wham City headed for Buffalo

Baltimore's alt-comedy group Wham City is coming through Buffalo on its 2016 comedy tour, playing at 7:30 p.m. April 6 at Sugar City (1239 Niagara St.).

A collective of comedians, filmmakers and artists, Wham City has made music videos for musicians like Dan Deacon and Beach House, and created shows and specials for Adult Swim including "Live Forever As You Are Now with Alan Resnick" and the viral smash "Unedited Footage of a Bear", which has racked up more than 2 million views online. The viral bear video was called "mind-meltingly good" by Slate and an "amazing … surreal nightmare" by Charlie Kaufman.

Similar to the sensibilities of absurdist sketch shows like “Monty Python’s Flying Circus,” “Mr. Show” and “Tim and Eric,” The Wham City live show incorporates everything from traditional stand-up and sketches to bizarre videos and performances that push the outer limits of comedy.

Wham City will be supported with opening sets by Baltimore performer Cricket Arrison, whose play “Make Yourself At Home” was named Best Short Play by the Baltimore City Paper in 2015. Local comedians Matt Thompson and Pat Kewley will also perform.

Tickets for the all-ages show are $6 at the door.
