A man who fled the state after raping a 12-year-old girl while he was a guest in her family’s Buffalo home was sentenced Wednesday to 17½ years in prison and 20 years post release supervision in State Supreme Court.
Lenard Harris, 41, admitted to Justice Russell P. Buscaglia on Feb. 18 that he had intercourse with the girl in December 2014. The girl reported the assault and Harris, who has a prior felony offense and several other convictions, became a wanted man. Buffalo Police turned to the public for help and detectives from the Sex Offense Squad caught up with Harris last April 20 on Winslow Avenue.
The judge also granted a request by Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Murray, who prosecuted the case, for an order of protection for the victim, which requires that Harris have no contact with her in person, by phone, letter, social media, through other individuals or any other manner that may become possible between now and Oct. 21, 2060.
