April 7 ceremony to kick off National Fair Housing Month

A proclamation to kick off Fair Housing Month will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the council chambers of Amherst Town Hall, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.

Throughout the month of April, local fair housing advocates will be expressing support for the passage legislation recently proposed in the Erie County Legislature to protect people from discrimination in the housing market based on their sources of income, such as Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability.

The Erie County Fair housing Partnership will hold a free fair housing training for landlords and tenants provided by Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the hamburg Community Development Department, 6122 South Park Ave. Another such training is set for 6 to 7 p.m. April 12 in Amherst Town Hall.
