Three Macy’s stores at two local malls have officially gone dark.
The Macy’s Department stores at the Eastern Hills and McKinley malls rang in their final sales Saturday. A Macy’s-owned Home store also closed at McKinley Mall.
They were among 40 locations that closed in a nationwide cost-cutting and restructuring effort. The company had performed poorly during the crucial Christmas shopping season.
The closures put about 155 employees out of work. Just a handful of workers have been transferred to remaining stores at Walden Galleria and Boulevard Mall. The rest will receive severance benefits, the company said.
