Eliza N. Ferby, teacher and researcher

April 19, 1928 – March 21, 2016

Eliza N. Ferby, of Buffalo, a retired teacher and researcher, died March 21 in HighPointe on Michigan. She was 87.

Born in Lackawanna, Ms. Ferby earned a bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State College in 1973 and a master’s degree in education from the University at Buffalo in 1980.

She worked as a supervisor at the New York State Research Foundation at UB from 1962 to 1970, was a science teacher and a substitute teacher in the Buffalo schools from 1973 to 1982, then was an assistant research scientist and alcohol and substance abuse counselor at the Research Institute on Alcoholism. She retired in 1992.

Ms. Ferby also joined a cake baking organization and learned how to make molds for decorating. She also was a volunteer at the Salvation Army on Main Street. She also enjoyed sewing and traveling.

Survivors include a sister, Amelia Sims.

Services will be held at noon Tuesday in Amigone Funeral Home, 1132 Delaware Ave.
