2015 Outstanding Citizens

How do you choose a handful of “Outstanding Citizens,” when Western New York is overflowing with people whose lives are built around the concept of public involvement? This region is blessed with hundreds of individuals who, day in and day out, work to make this a better place. It’s a challenge each year as we select citizens to honor and, the truth is, that while this year’s honorees are among the best of the best, any of them could also have been selected in previous years. Such is the bounty of Western New York. ¶ This year’s honorees are Barbara Carr, the just-retired executive director of the SPCA Serving Erie County; Donna Fernandes, president and CEO of the Buffalo Zoo; Eunice Lewin, a longtime community volunteer and co-founder of Impacto Consulting Associates; Stanford Lipsey, retired publisher of The Buffalo News; Vincent O’Neill, co-founder of the Irish Classical Theatre Company; and Lisa Wylie and Jo-Anne Wylie, president and vice president of Honor Flight Buffalo. ¶ These seven leaders continue to make a difference in the civic life of the Buffalo area. They are the kind of people you always find in successful communities, and we are pleased to recognize their significant contributions to the important work of making this a great place to live.
