Sister, brother remain hospitalized after Sardinia crash

A 16-year-old girl remained in serious condition Thursday at the Erie County Medical Center and her 19-year-old brother was being treated there for a head injury and multiple broken bones as a result of the Wednesday collision between a tractor-trailer and their mother’s SUV in Sardinia.

All three had to be extricated from the SUV after the crash shortly after 1 p.m. on Route 16 between Allen Road and Route 39.

The teens’ 47-year-old mother was treated and released from ECMC Wednesday afternoon.

The girl suffered internal injuries, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer is suspected of failing slow down at the intersection and causing the crash. The sheriff’s office is considering charges against that driver, who was uninjured.

The names of the four people involved in the accident have not been released.
