A driver was killed after his vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train in Cayuga County on Thursday morning, State Police said.
The train, which had stopped in Buffalo earlier in the morning, was headed east when the driver tried to pass the railroad gates on North Main Street in the Town of Mentz. The collision happened at about 6:50 a.m.
The gates were down and flashing when the vehicle tried to pass through, authorities said.
