Delois R. Jarvis, operated a number of businesses with husband

Nov. 30, 1933 – March 5, 2016

Delois Rachel Jarvis of Buffalo, who operated several businesses with her late husband on the city’s East Side, died March 5 in Garden Gate Nursing Facility. She was 82.

Born in Buffalo, the former Delois Durant worked at the Adam Meldrum & Anderson department store in downtown Buffalo after she graduated from Fosdick Masten High School.

Mrs. Jarvis helped her husband of 31 years, Nathaniel “Nate,” operate Jarvis Bow Co. from their Southampton Street home; Nate’s Food Market and Soda Bar at 177 Riley St.; Nate’s Wholesale House on Northampton Street, and the NuTrend Market at Jefferson Avenue and Riley Street.

A faithful member of People’s Community Church, she also attended Grace United Church of Christ.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed bingo and crossword puzzles.

Her husband died in 1989.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Inez Winfield; three grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held March 11 in the Lombardo Funeral Home, 885 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst.
