Cuban national spared more jail time in bank fraud case

Claudia Diaz Diaz, 22, a Cuban national living in Buffalo, was spared additional jail time Thursday by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara on her Nov. 12 guilty plea to a charge of conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

After having been in custody for the last year, Diaz Diaz was placed on probation for the next three years. One of six Cuban nationals charged in the case, she admitted that she obtained the credit and debit card numbers of 79 local people and created counterfeit cards which were used to make purchases at stores in Buffalo and Amherst. Proceedings continue against her alleged coconspirators.
