April 20, 1935 – March 20, 2016

Sister Sheila L. Lederer, a longtime health care provider, died Sunday in the Mercy Center Convent Health Care Unit. She was 80.

Born in North Tonawanda, one of 10 children in the family, she attended Gilmore Elementary School and Gaskill High School.

She began her career in health care as an aide at Kenmore Mercy Hospital and, impressed by the work of the Sisters of Mercy, joined the order at the age of 28.

After three years of study, she returned to work at Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo and Kenmore Mercy Hospital in the sterile-processing departments and in radiology.

Also known as Sister M. James Aloysius, she volunteered in the Helping Hearts Kids Club.

She was active in St. Andrew’s Parish in the Town of Tonawanda, was a Eucharistic minister and sang in the choir.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 4 p.m. next Wednesday in the chapel of Mercy Center, 625 Abbott Road.
