You make the call on the 2016 All-WNY girls basketball team

We don't have a monopoly on picking the best girls high school basketball players in Western New York for the 2015-16 season. You can do it too.

We've put together a list of players under consideration for our annual list (the boys list is here). As you can see, there are a lot of names on there. Everyone who has been named a first-team or second-team selection in a given league is listed. In addition, players who were picked as the league player of the year are designated with a "PoY" by their names. We also included players who made last year's teams (First, 2015; Second 2015; etc.) or honorable mention (HM 2015) list.

For our All-Western New York teams, we attempt to pick the 20 best players who had the best seasons. There is plenty of grey area and room for interpretation in that description, and that's on purpose. That's the way we like it. There really can be countless factors discussed when it comes to determining the All-WNY team. In fact, the arguments already have started.

Our top 20 players are divided into four five-member teams: First team, second team, third team, fourth team. We then pick around 35-40 honorable mentions. That might sound like a lot of spots to fill. But print this list out, start circling names, then add them up (that's what we do): You'll see how things get very difficult.

Use the comments section below, tweet to @bufnewspreptalk or @WDX2BB or email with your picks.

On our list, some teams have several names listed -- it might be because they might all be worthy top 20 candidates, because those teams went deep into the postseason and had many contributors, because those teams are deep and it is tough to determine which is a team's second- or third- best player for honorable mention reasons. Like we said, we err on the side of having too many names. It's a difficult process to pick up the area's very best players, but it can be fun too.

Note: We are missing the all-conference picks from the Buffalo Charter Schools. Those should be arriving shortly, and we'll add them to this list.

We're willing to accept nominations for those who might have been overlooked. You can add names by mentioning someone in the comments section below, tweeting the name to @WDX2BB, or by sending an email to We'll add that person to the list.
