Guitarist's recital features music by the King of Thailand

June will see yet another year of the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition. And the festivities surrounding it are getting started a little bit early.

At 7:30 p.m. March 22, Ekachai Jearakul is presenting a bargain recital at Kleinhans Music Hall. The recent winner of the Guitar Foundation of America Competition, Jearakul is two-time Falletta Competition finalist. A native of Thailand, he earned his master’s degree in guitar performance from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

For his recital in Buffalo, he will be performing music by Joaquin Turina and Leo Brouwer, as well as a sonata he commissioned from Stephen Goss. Of special interest are a couple of selections by His Majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. They are “Love Light In My Heart” and “Magic Beams.”

The event is free with the purchase of a ticket to the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition finals, or $10 otherwise. Members of the Friends of Falletta can also attend free.
