Letter: Cheektowaga planners dropped ball on Walmart

Cheektowaga planners dropped ball on Walmart

In regard to Walmart denying bus service to the new Walden Avenue store, the fault does not fall on the retailer entirely. True, it is late in the construction to do a revision, but it could be done at an expense. A few days ago, a Walmart executive agreed to consider a proposal from the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.

My question is this: Why wasn’t bus traffic considered when the developer sought approval from the Town of Cheektowaga Planning Board?

A tragedy 21 years ago at the Walden Galleria should have thrown up a red flag. For a large retail development such as this, this issue should have been addressed before the approval of the site plan by the Planning Board and Town Council.
