AUER, Eleanor "Ellie" (Zeisz)

AUER - Eleanor "Ellie" (nee Zeisz) 93, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2016 in Sarasota, FL, surrounded by her family. Born in Snyder, NY, July 26, 1922, Ellie was preceded in death by husband Francis J. "Bud" Auer of Buffalo, NY. She is survived by son David and his wife Lisa of Hilton Head, SC; daughter Deborah Auer Bill of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren Megan Auer Micale (Kevin), Allison Auer Littlefield, Lindsey Auer, Tessa Bill, Morgan Bill and great-grandson Luke Micale. In her early years, Ellie lived in New York City and worked for Bergdorf Goodman. She came back to Buffalo and was employed at Kleinhan's Downtown and met and married Bud. She was a woman of entrepreneurship, grace, humor and style and an accomplished watercolorist. In 1961, the couple founded the Red Door Ski Shop, started in the garage of their home on South Lane in Orchard Park, NY. For 28 years, the family owned and operated multiple locations in Western New York. The Red Door Ski Shop still carries its name today. Ellie was a devoted volunteer at SPARCC in Sarasota, a safe place for battered women and children. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Thomas Moore Church. A Memorial Service, followed by a Celebration of Life, will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 9:30 AM in St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Dr., Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to SPARCC, 2139 Main St., Sarasota, FL 34237.
