WYLES, Carl J.

WYLES - Carl J. Of Bonita Springs, FL, formerly of Buffalo, NY, February 15, 2016, beloved husband of 59 years to the late Marilyn C. (nee Ball); loving father of Christopher P. Wyles, Patricia L. (Michael) Prohaska and Kathleen A. Cramer; cherished grandfather of Nicole M. and Anthony M. Prohaska; dearest brother of the late Barbara (late Norbert) Cantie and Daniel (late Sue) Wyles; dear brother-in-law of Richard (Mary) Ball. A private service was held for the family. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bonita Springs, FL. Carl was a graduate of Kensington High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1955. He served several years in the Air Force Reserves, and in 1964 went on to work at Linde Union Carbide in the Town of Tonawanda, most of his years there as Director of Purchasing. He retired in 1986. Shortly thereafter, he and his wife Marilyn moved to Bonita Springs, FL, where they made their permanent home. Carl was an outstanding athlete. He was All-High at Kensington in both football and baseball. He attended North Carolina State on a football scholarship, and played both football and baseball for the University. He was named Freshman Athlete of the Year in 1950. He went on to play both Pro and Semi-Pro Baseball. Carl played several years in Nova Scotia, Canada, also playing for the All-Air Force team, and then played for Simon-Pure in Buffalo in the late 1950s through early 1960s. He was elected to both the WNY Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Buffalo Harvard Cup Hall of Fame in 2012. Carl was also an accomplished handball player. He and friend Jim Butler were one-time Buffalo City Doubles Champions. He went on to win several more titles in both Singles and Doubles, and eventually won several B Titles in Racquetball as well. Carl will be dearly missed by both family and friends.
