Buffalo firefighter suffers minor injury battling vacant house fire

A Buffalo firefighter suffered a minor injury when fighting a blaze early Saturday at a vacant East Side house in the neighborhood around East Ferry Street and Jefferson Avenue.

The fire, reported just after midnight at 88 Dupont St., was brought under control by firefighters who extended two ladders over the two-and-a-half story house and doused the flames from above. The blaze caused an estimated $80,000 in damage, fire officials said.

A fire department spokesman said a firefighter was treated at Erie County Medical Center after he injured an ankle.
