Small earthquake reported near Attica

A small earthquake occurred about 2 miles from Attica in Wyoming County Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The 1.7-magnitude quake happened at 5:45 a.m., according to the agency’s website.

Earthquakes with magnitudes between 1 and 3 on the Richter Scale are usually not felt, except by a few people under “especially favorable conditions,” the agency says.

There are approximately 900,000 earthquakes of that size every year, according to Michigan Technical University.
