Front page, March 18, 1916: 'Irish dandy of parade contracts pneumonia'

A small box next to the St. Patrick's Day Parade photos reports 35-year-old William Sweet, who wore "a green satin uniform" marching with St. Brigid's Parish in the St. Patrick's Day parade, collapsed afterward with a severe case of pneumonia and was given "only a slight chance to recover."

Lower on the page is a small story about the drowning weeks before of five Chinese people being smuggled across the Niagara River in a yawl boat that caught in ice floes and capsized. The story reports the smugglers were assumed to have reached Navy Island.
