A Buffalo man accused of molesting a 4-year-old girl last year has been arrested on federal child pornography charges.
Duke Jimenez, 33, is charged with having 14 images of child pornography involving the victim on his cellphone. U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. said that if convicted as charged, he could face 15 to 30 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango said that in September, Buffalo police arrested Jimenez and accused him of repeatedly molesting the girl that he and a former girlfriend had been baby-sitting regularly since 2012.
Police said that in October, the little girl’s older brother said he heard screaming and crying after Jimenez would take her into a bedroom, and when his sister came out of the bedroom, she was usually crying and sad. Mango added that in November, police interviewed Jimenez’s ex-girlfriend, who said that because of her work schedule, Jimenez was left alone with the girl about 100 times in recent years.
On March 10, Buffalo police obtained a search warrant and seized the suspect’s cellphone, authorities said. U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer on Friday ordered Jimenez to remain jailed pending a detention hearing Thursday.
