Sarah J. Soluri, Niagara Falls woman active in Italian Sons and Daughters of America

March 15, 1921 - March 16, 2016

NIAGARA FALLS – Sarah J. Soluri of Niagara Falls, an active member of the Cristoforo Columbo Society and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, died Wednesday in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence after a lengthy illness. She was 95.

Born in Niagara Falls, the former Sarah J. Ricotta was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. During the early 1940s, she worked for Nabisco Shredded Wheat in the production department.

As a member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America Power City Lodge 158, she served as the organization’s treasurer, secretary and delegate to the national convention. She also was a member of the Women’s Postal Auxiliary and Socialites.

Mrs. Soluri participated in bowling and bocce leagues and enjoyed travel, including trips to Rome, where she met Pope John Paul II and twice received a Papal Blessing.

Her husband of 37 years, John A. Soluri, died in 1982.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith M. Cirifalco; one son, James J.; two sisters, Mary Martello and Isabel Caterina; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Vincent de Paul Parish at St. Leo’s Church, 2748 Military Road.
