BRYCE, Eileen (McManamon)

Bryce - Eileen (nee McManamon) Eileen McManamon Bryce died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, in Fort Myers, FL, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Cleveland, OH on June 28th, 1922 to Thomas Francis McManamon and Mae Callahan McManamon, and was the eldest of three daughters. She was married on July 6th, 1946 to Henry Wares Bryce in Lakewood, OH. They lived most of their married life in Buffalo, NY; Chatham, MA; and Fort Myers, FL. Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Henry Wares Bryce, and sons Thomas Graham Bryce and Henry (Chip) Wares Bryce, Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Rosemary Bennett and Joan Kmieck of Cleveland; children James Wares Bryce (Kay) of Chatham, Rosemary Schintzius (Roger) of Buffalo, Virginia Bryce of Skaneateles, NY, and Janet Miller (Don) of Sarasota, FL; 10 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her devoted caregivers in Fort Myers. Eileen graduated from West Technical
High School in 1942, which, at the time was the largest high school in the state of Ohio with an enrollment of 5,200 students. Eileen was elected the first female student body president of the school, an accomplishment which received national news attention. She then graduated from Western Reserve University and worked briefly for IBM before her marriage. Eileen was a parishioner of St. Mark in Buffalo and Holy Redeemer in Chatham for many years. She was a member of the Country Club of Buffalo and Eastward Ho! She was an active resident of the Cypress Cove community in Fort Myers for many years prior to her death. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. A brief visitation from 8:30-9:30 AM will be held at NICKERSON FUNERAL HOME, 87 Crowell Rd., Chatham, on Monday, March 21st. A celebration Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM, Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Avenue. Graveside services will follow at People's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a gathering at the home of James and Kay Bryce, 62 Oyster Pond Furlong after services.
