Bumbe Bee Tuna has issued a voluntary recall of three types of tuna fish.
The company cited sterilization “process deviations” at a third-party food packaging plant that could allow the product to spoil or be contaminated by pathogens. Consuming the product could lead to life-threatening illness.
The problem was found during a routine quality audit.
Affected are the five-ounce cans of Chunk Light Tuna in Water, five-ounce cans of Chunk Light Tuna in Oil and four-packs of five-ounce Chunk Light Tuna in Water. Each of those products was produced last month. They carry the label UPC codes 8660000020, 8660000021 and 8660000736. A list of all affected can codes and best-by dates can be found at Bumblebee.com.
No illnesses have been reported. The recall involves 31,579 cases of tuna which were distributed across the country.
Customers should discard the product. Consumers with questions or those seeking a refund should call 1-888-820-1947 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
