A corrections officer at the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden suffered head injuries in an attack by an inmate, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office said.
Dayshawn Hopper, 25, attacked the officer on Saturday, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities did not disclose the seriousness of the injuries.
Hopper had to be restrained and placed in a secure area, the sheriff’s office said.
He was charged with a felony count of assault and obstruction of governmental administration. He also faces administrative charges for the attack.
Hopper was serving a three-month sentence for a conviction on prison contraband charges.
