BATAVIA – Calling him a “man of character, a proven leader and a team builder,” Batavia School District Superintendent Christopher J. Dailey on Tuesday announced that Ashley John Grillo has been selected as the new principal of Batavia Middle School.
“We believe he is a perfect fit for what we need at the middle school,” Dailey said. “He understands middle school students and how they learn and develop, and he is a great facilitator with teachers.”
Grillo, 37, an Albion native and Brockport resident. comes from Holley Central School District, where he taught seventh-grade science before advancing to the rank of elementary school assistant principal.
“I was very excited to see the middle school posting because I feel that middle school education is my strength,” said Grillo, who earned a master’s degree at Nazareth College and his certificate of advance study at Brockport State College.
Grillo, one of 38 applicants for the pos, begins the job on July 1. Sandra Griffin, the middle school’s current principal, is set to retire early in the next school year.
