WHEATFIELD — Niagara County sheriff’s deputies were called after a driver was reportedly speeding backwards around a business’ parking lot in the 2100 block of Liberty Drive.
According to a report issued by the sheriff’s department on Monday the incident happened just before 8 p.m. on March 8 in the Scott Perry’s Auction Company.
The caller was concerned the driver was going to strike other vehicles that were stored in the lot.
A deputy arrived at the scene and found a damaged vehicle and the driver, Clinton Shufelt, 33, of Frontier Ave., North Tonawanda, laying in the back seat.
He was reportedly intoxicated, highly combative and was taken into custody using pepper spray.
Shufelt was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Broken beer bottles, a vehicle that was damaged by a pool stick and another that had been hit were found at the scene, but the owner declined to pursue criminal mischief charges at the time of the report, according to the reporting sheriff deputy.
