Back on Feb. 13, Erie County Republicans clearly expressed their presidential preference when 57 percent of those voting in an informal straw poll backed Donald J. Trump.
On Saturday, however, Trump scored even better – unanimous support when local party committee members made their endorsement official during the party’s monthly “roundtable” meeting.
“The Erie County Republican Party believes strongly that Donald Trump is the leader we need in the White House to restore our nation’s greatness. As exhibited by his remarkable victory in our February presidential straw poll, Trump has the overwhelming support of Republicans here in Erie County,” Erie County GOP Chairman Nicholas A. Langworthy said.
“We are very excited to help lead his campaign here in New York, when Donald Trump may put this state in play for the first time since Ronald Reagan won New York in 1984,” Langworthy said.
Erie County now becomes one of the few county organizations in the state to back Trump, following the lead earlier this month of Langworthy. Onondaga County GOP Chairman Thomas V. Dadey Jr. is also backing Trump.
