Donna Majewski, gourmet pastry chef for top local restaurants

Donna Majewski of Buffalo, a gourmet pastry chef who worked with the area’s leading restaurants, died Feb. 29 after an illness. She was 55.

Born in Buffalo, the former Donna Neal was a graduate of McKinley High School. She began working around 1990 as an apprentice to Ned Wilson, the pastry chef at Just Pasta restaurant, then succeeded him after he left.

After more than a dozen years at Just Pasta, she was pastry chef for Rue Franklin West restaurant.

Mrs. Majewski also owned and operated her own business, Room for Dessert, for about 20 years, working at first from the kitchen at Just Pasta, then from the First Presbyterian Church on Symphony Circle, providing pastries for Salvatore’s Italian Gardens, Nektar, Bacchus and other restaurants.

She closed the business in December.

She and her husband traveled extensively, often visiting Mexico, where their two oldest children lived.

She enjoyed all kinds of music and creating things with her hands.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, David; a son, Brandon; two daughters, Nicole and Ashley; her mother, Anna Neal; a brother, William Neal; and four grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. March 26 in Dnipro Ukrainian Center, 562 Genesee St.
