Death of man who collapsed in Amherst under investigation

Amherst police detectives continued an investigation Monday night into the death of a 57-year-old man who collapsed at a physical therapy office in the town earlier in the day.

According to Lt. Patrick Mayer police received an emergency medical service call from the Orthosports Physical Therapy office at 3970 Harlem Road about an unresponsive man at 2:43 p.m. Monday. Police and an EMS squad from the Snyder Fire Department and a twin City Ambulance rushed to the scene and CPR was performed on the man before he was taken to the Veterans Administration Hospital on Bailey Avenue. But the man was pronounced dead at the hospital about 3:30 p.m., according to Mayer. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and the name of the victim will not be released until all his next of kin have been notified, the lieutenant said.
