Western New York has two teams in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament.
St. Bonaventure earned an at-large berth in the event and will play Oklahoma State Friday in Corvalis, Ore. Bona is a No. 10 seed. Oklahoma State is a No. 7 seed.
The University at Buffalo women's team will play Ohio State in the first round in Columbus, Ohio. The game will be played Friday at 2:30 p.m.
It will be UB's first-ever appearance in the women's "Big Dance." Bona appeared in the event in 2012.
Bona lost to Virginia Commonwealth in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament, which created some pessimism over the team's chances. But the Bonnies had a strong resume, as evidenced by their No. 10 seeding. Bona (23-7) stands 34th in the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index. The Bonnies are one of 11 teams in the nation with a top 50 RPI and a winning record against the top 25 (with two wins).
