Friday is the deadline for placing orders with the Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District for its 2016 Conservation Tree and Shrug Seedling Sale. Pickup will be April 23 at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg.
Thirty-eight species of trees and shrubs are available in lots of 10 to 500. The bare-root seedlings are one to three years old and range in size from 6 to 24 inches. New this year are basswood, butternut, eastern ninebark, shagbark hickory, pin oak, northern pecan and American larch. There also is an expanded selection of four-year-old evergreen transplants.
The district also has marking flags, fertilizer tables and tree shelters. Bluebird nest boxes can be ordered through the program or purchased at the district office, 50 Commerce Way, East Aurora, behind the post office. Order forms are available at the office, online at ecswcd.org or by calling 652-8480, ext. 5.
