Donations totaled $6,507,807 as Appeal Week opened this weekend for Catholic Charities of Buffalo. The figure represents slightly more than 59 percent of this year’s $11 million goal.
Bishop Richard J. Malone joined Catholic Charities leaders and volunteers as donations from this weekend’s Masses were received and tabulated Sunday afternoon in Catholic Charities headquarters, 741 Delaware Ave. Special collections will continue at Masses next weekend. The appeal, which supports 70 programs and services throughout the eight Western New York counties, extends to June 30.
Three parishes, all in Southern Tier counties, exceeded their goals on the first weekend. They were St. Patrick’s Church in Fillmore, with a goal of $4,763, which collected $5,015; St. Joseph’s Church in Fredonia, with a goal of $28,837, which collected $29,745; and Sacred Heart Church in Lakewood, with a goal of $45,390, which collected $62,400.
