50th anniversary of Vietnam War to be marked in Williamsville, Batavia

VA Western New York Healthcare System will hold two Vietnam veterans commemoration ceremonies observing the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War on March 29 in Williamsville and Batavia.

The events will pay tribute to their service, as well as mark advances in technology and medicine related to military research conducted during the war. In addition, contributions by allies will be recognized.

The Williamsville event will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the American Legion George F. Lamm Post 622, 962 Wehrle Drive, Guest speaker is John Batiste, a retired Army major general who commanded the 1st Infantry Division in Iraq. The Batavia event will be at 2 p.m. in Batavia VA Medical Center, 222 Richmond Ave., Building 4 auditorium. Guest speaker is Vincent Schollard, who served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Navy corpsman.

A breakfast will follow the Williamsville event. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony in Batavia.
