Slow-speed chase in Chautauqua County lands Ohio man in hospital

ELLINGTON – An Ohio man led police on a slow-speed chase in Chautauqua County Friday morning and was later taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

A sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a business in the Town of Ellington around 5:40 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.

When the deputy pulled the vehicle over, the driver pulled away.

Police pursued him at slow speeds for about 10 minutes. He stopped twice but drove away each time.

The 39-year-old man from Uniontown, Ohio, was eventually taken into custody when his vehicle was stopped on Waterboro Hill.

The man, whose name was not released by authorities, was taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown for a mental health evaluation. Authorities are still investigating and possible charges are pending, the sheriff’s office said.
