Southern Tier Expressway to be reduced for rehabilitation

A section of the Southern Tier Expressway (I-86) between exits 21 and 24 will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting next week.

On Monday, the lane closures will be put in place on the westbound portion of the highway in the towns of Carrollton and Allegany and on the Allegany Territory of the Seneca Nation. Lane closures in the eastbound direction will start later in the week, the state Department of Transportation said.

The closures, which will remain in place through the end of the construction season, are being instituted as part of a rehabilitation project of the Southern Tier Expressway in the vicinity of exit 23 (Route 219).
