Jean M. Robinson, former secretary for Town of Amherst

Jean M. Robinson of Amherst, a former secretary for the Town of Amherst, died Saturday in Oxford Village at Canterbury Woods, Amherst. She was 91.

Born in Buffalo, the former Jean Mueller was a 1942 graduate of Bennett High School and graduated from North Park Business School the following year. From 1943 to 1946, she was a secretary in the State Department of Audit and Control in downtown Buffalo. She also assisted her parents in their Lake Erie Shore Delicatessen in Hamburg.

After raising her family, she worked at various times as a secretary for the Town of Amherst and was a teacher’s aide at Smallwood Drive Elementary School.

Mrs. Robinson was a deacon and elder at Cleveland Drive Presbyterian Church in Cheektowaga. She also was a volunteer hospitality ambassador at Buffalo Niagara International Airport until 2009. She had been a resident of Canterbury Woods since 2010.

Her husband of 68 years, Sidney G., longtime chief of the navigation and communications unit at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, died in 2014.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Hillegas and Kathleen Skinner; a son, James G.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held.
