Electrical fire darkens 500 in Allentown

Fire in an electrical cable interrupted power Thursday to about 500 National Grid customers in Buffalo’s Allentown neighborhood, the power company reported. The outage began shortly before 8 p.m. when the cable caught fire on a pole on Pennsylvania Street, a power spokeswoman said.

Crews were expected to restore service to about half of the customers around 11 p.m., the spokeswoman added, and power would be returned to the remaining customers “section by section.”
