A second defendant has been sentenced in the brutal beating and slashing death of a West Side man in November 2014.
Juakeen Glenn, 30, of Buffalo was sentenced Wednesday by Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk to 23 years incarceration followed by five years of post-release supervision – the same sentence Franczyk ordered for Kenneth Smith, 38.
Glenn and Smith both pleaded guilty in January to first degree manslaughter for their roles in the death of Rafael A. Martinez, 57, of West Avenue. Martinez was at Smith’s Grant Street apartment, where he sometimes helped clean up after Smith’s dogs and do other jobs, when he was attacked by the two men and a third person, Mahalia Guest, 22.
Guest, who also pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter, is to be sentenced Thursday.
The three reportedly beat Martinez, struck his head repeatedly on a bathtub and cut his throat before putting the body in a garbage tote and dumping it in an alley behind 13 Arnold St.
