Two fishermen treated after falling through the ice on Chautauqua Lake

MAYVILLE – Two Pennsylvania men were treated for hypothermia after they fell through the ice while fishing Tuesday afternoon on Chautauqua Lake.

Mike Cooney, 57, of Austin, Pa., was able to pull himself out of the water and onto the ice.

Jim Moore, 79, of Emporium, Pa., was wearing a life jacket and, with Cooney’s assistance, managed to hang onto the ice shelf until he was rescued by the Dewittville Fire Department’s hover craft.

Both men were transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital where they were treated for hypothermia.
