BATAVIA – Educators from Orleans and Tompkins counties are in the running for the position of principal at the Batavia Middle School.
After a rigorous interview process that started with a list of 38 potential candidates, Ashley John Grillo, assistant principal at Holley Elementary School, and Linda Dickey, associate principal at Ithaca Middle School, have emerged as finalists.
The post will open when current principal, Sandra Griffin, retires early next school year.
Of the 38 initial applicants, 15 were invited to a phone screening interview and then eight met with a committee comprised of Batavia Middle School parents, teachers and staff. After a few remaining candidates took part in another interview session, Grillo and Dickey were selected as finalists.
Residents will have the opportunity to meet Dickey at 3 p.m. Wednesday and Grillo at 3 p.m. Thursday, with both “meet and greet” gatherings to take place at the middle school at 96 Ross St.
The district’s board of education is expected to announce its decision on March 15.
