Two bank robberies at bank branches about a half a block away from each other on Elmwood Avenue occurred within 15 minutes of each other Monday afternoon, Buffalo police said.
A robber fled with an undetermined amount of cash from the First Niagara branch at 529 Elmwood Ave., just before 3 p.m., and within minutes Central District officers and detectives were on the scene. As they were investigating that robbery, a radio call went out that the Bank of America branch, 495 Elmwood, had just been robbed.
Officer Mark Swaggard and Detective Charles Militello determined that the robber was the same individual who had robbed First Niagara. The officer and detective began a search of the neighborhood and located the suspect on the 200 block of Richmond Avenue.
Robert Stanley, 43, of Buffalo, was taken into custody.
