Girls basketball Far West Regionals fast facts

Saturday at Rush-Henrietta High School

Class AA: Williamsville North (24-0) vs. Penfield (22-1): Ericka Taplin (20 ppg, 11 rpg) has the ability to take over games and the Spartans may need her to do just that if they are to become the first Section VI team to ever win a regional game at Class AA.

Class A: Lake Shore (19-4) vs. Mercy (21-3): Jaylen Jimerson averages a double-double for Mercy. Lake Shore has played older than it looks this entire postseason. Can Eagles and the band of eighth-graders extend the playoff ride of their young lives?

Class B: Olean (23-1) vs. Livonia (20-4): Can Steph Curry, er, Sara Pfeiffer, carry Olean into state semifinals with another out of this world scoring/shooting display? Pfeiffer averaging close to 24 ppg after 33-point show in overall Class B final.

Class C: Holland (21-3) vs. South Seneca (21-3): Olivia Schmidt and company are first-time state qualifiers hoping to earn a basketball title to go along with the state girls soccer title they won three years ago.

Class D: Panama (19-4) vs. Wheatland-Chili (21-3): Emilee Sperry and Taylor Bowen lead a Panama crew with some “unfinished business” as Panthers look to return to state final four for second straight year after losing tough one in state semifinals last year.
